Pelley era begins with a blowout of Sheridan

New Western Boone head coach Justin Pelley couldn’t have asked for a much better start to his career as coach of the Stars. Western Boone jumped out to a 20-0 lead at the half and cruised to a 34-13 win over Class 1A No. 1 Sheridan Friday night. “We put a lot into this game,” Pelley said. “The credit goes to the kids and our coaches. Our kids are well-coached. Football is a funny game because one guy can’t do it. That isn’t meant to discredit other sports, but football, when you have 45-60 guys on a team, that is a lot of facets that need to be covered and we do that everyday in practice. Our kids our committed, our coaches are committed and our administration is committed. I think we made some believers in what we are doing tonight.” It was the first-career head coaching victory for Pelley. He said he was more happy for the kids, because it showed that their belief in his coaching style worked. “It is nice, and it is good for the kids to see,” Pelley said. “All the stuff we have been working on is there. It took a lot of trust because they had a lot of success with another offense. There was some hesitation, but I think now that we have a win under our belt they see what we can do if they put the work in. I told the kids whoever came out with the most effort should win, even if that was Sheridan. Tonight I thought we had the effort.” Western Boone took the opening kickoff and went 69 yards on 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead on a three-yard quarterback keeper by Logan Wethington.
