Indians game with Columbus suspended in 14th inning tied at 4

COLUMBUS, OHIO — After more than four hours of a back-and-forth contest at Huntington Park in Columbus, the Indianapolis Indians (59-35) and Columbus Clippers (42-52) have been suspended in the top of the 13th inning with the score tied 4-4.

The game will be resumed from its stopping point this Saturday, July 13 at 7:05 p.m. at Victory Field, and the two teams’ regularly-scheduled contest on Saturday evening will begin 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game.

Before the rain descended upon Huntington Park, the Tribe found itself trailing 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning. Following two quick outs, the Indians began knocking on the door as Tony Sanchez, Jeff Larish and Jerry Sands each drew two-out walks to put three men on base for Brain Bocock.

With the bases juiced and floodgates ready to open, Columbus called upon its lights-out right-hander C.C. Lee (0.2 IP, H, ER, HR), who thwarted the comeback by inducing a flyout to end the frame.

Down to their final chance of the contest and with a potential series loss on the line, the Indians found the boost they needed via Jared Goedert. The former Clippers infielder fell behind Lee 1-2, but after working to even the count 2-2, Goedert unleashed a little revenge against his former team by depositing a game-equalizing solo shot over the left-field wall that knotted the contest 4-4.

For Goedert, the longball was his 10th of the season, but for Lee, the big fly was his first surrendered in 16 games this year.

From there, it became a heated duel between Indianapolis left-hander Atahualpa Severino and Columbus right-hander Boof Bonser, who both kept the opposition from crossing home plate until the game was suspended. While Bonser (3.0 IP, 2 H, 3 SO) worked a strong outing of 3.0 scoreless frames, it was the southpaw Severino (4.0 IP, H, BB, 3 SO) that stole the show as he limited the Clippers to just one hit in 4.0 shutout innings of work.
