Barricklow beats buzzer to top Millers

Lebanon — It wasn’t the prettiest buzzer beater you will ever see, but that doesn’t matter to the Class 3A No. 12 Lebanon Tigers.

Lebanon overcame an 12-point fourth-quarter deficit and topped Noblesville 55-54 in overtime when Cord Barricklow laid the ball in with 0.5 seconds left.

“It was crazy, especially to happen on senior night,” Barricklow said. “In the four years of your high school career you look to hit a game-winner sometime, and to be able to do it tonight of all nights is incredible feeling. Jake Marshall did a great job with guys on him to find me on the opposite block. I fumbled it a little bit, couldn’t find the handle but I didn’t hear the buzzer so I put it up and hoped. It was a great feeling.”

The Tigers trailed 54-53 with 13.8 seconds left in overtime, but Noblesville missed two free throws to give the Tigers a chance.

After a series of timeouts with 6.6 seconds left, Jacob Nelson passed the ball into Marshall, who slipped at the right wing.

But with Noblesville defenders surrounding him, Marshall maintained his dribble and got off a pass to Barricklow on the left block. Barricklow gained his composure then laid it in with 0.5 left and the clock ran out before Noblesville could inbound.

“It was exactly how we diagrammed it,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix joked. “The play was to get it to Jake Marshall coming off, but he was supposed to attack the basket and hopefully Cord’s man would come off him and we would dish it to him. Noblesville did a great job of defending the drive. What I am most proud of is that Jake Marshall had a couple guys hanging on him. He was strong enough to get up and get the pass across. It wasn’t the prettiest pass in the world, but Cord was able to go down and get him and finish. What heart from our kids had tonight.”

Things didn’t look so good for the Tigers early in the fourth quarter.
