WeBo hopes third times the charm vs. South

Frankfort — The Western Boone Stars will face a familiar foe tonight when they start Sectional 25 play at Frankfort.

The Stars have faced Southmont twice already this season (losing both times by three points) and have met the Mounties 32 times since 1993.

Western Boone head coach Scott McClelland said his team is ready to go.

“I thought Saturday up at Frankfort was really good,” McClelland said. “We had the first practice slot, played the night before and I thought the guys were really dialed in. We got a lot of shots up on both baskets and we took full advantage in the 90 minutes to get a lot of things accomplished. I think our guys are really dialed in to guard tomorrow night and take away some of Southmont’s stuff. There can be no open looks for their shooters.”

The Stars lost 49-46 Dec. 14 in the regular season meeting and 56-53 Jan. 5 in the Sugar Creek Classic title game.

McClelland said the Stars can learn from those games.

“I think you look at it from both games and you can rehash offensive miscues or defensive breakdowns,” McClelland said. “More than anything is that we know they can’t get open looks. We have to contest shots, keep them in front — which is easier said than done — but the guys understand that is what we have to do.”

Western Boone holds a 20-12 advantage in the last 32 meetings, including a 6-1 mark in the sectional.
