Tigers fall short in sectional final

Frankfort — The Lebanon Tigers walked into Frankfort’s Case Arena Saturday night, looking to claim the school’s 51st sectional championship and first in 11 years.

But Nathan Wissman and the Frankfort Hot Dogs made sure that didn’t happen. Wissman scored 22 points, a season high and 14 over his season average, to lead the Hot Dogs to a 66-59 win.

“It was a little bit of a mismatch,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix said. “They basically play four guards and one post and we play two posts and three perimeter players. The mismatch, tonight, favored them. Wissman stepped up for them and he hasn’t shown that much this year. He led them in scoring and we had to give something up defensively because they have three other really good perimeter scorers and a very good post player. We had to choose our poison. Unfortunately for us, Wissman hit some bank shots, some shots that normally don’t go in for him and the luck of the Irish was on their side tonight.”

The teams traded baskets back-and-forth to start the first quarter, but after Lebanon’s Cord Barricklow gave the Tigers an 8-6 lead with 4:23 to go in the quarter the Hot Dogs closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 16-8 lead heading into the second quarter.

“We just couldn’t get anything to drop early,” Hendrix said. “But, although we dug a hole in the first half, we had a nine-point run to start the second half and I felt like our kids were ready to go and back in it. But like we have said all year, if you don’t play 28-29 minutes well in a game like this, you aren’t going to win, and that is what happened tonight.”
