Accolades come in for LHS’s Curtis

— Two honors came in for Lebanon senior Katie Curtis Wednesday.

Curtis was named First Team Senior All-State by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and was named to participate in the Top-60 Senior Workout March 10.

Curtis was just one of 15 senior players selected on the First Team by the IBCA.

Curtis, who will play at Colgate next fall, averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 steals and 3.1 rebounds this past season while leading the Tigers to their third-straight Sagamore Conference and sectional championships.

The Top-60 Workout will be held this Sunday at Marian University.

There will be two sessions of the workout, which is hosted by Hoosier Basketball Magazine in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA.

The two sessions are used to be part of the selection process to decide the Indiana All-Star team.

Twenty-eight girls of the Top 60, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session (1 p.m. - 3 p.m).

The remaining 32 girls, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session (3:30-5:30 p.m.).

Heritage Christian head coach Rick Risinger will direct both sessions with the help of Terre Haute North’s Mike Allen, Logansport’s Jerry Hoover and Sullivan’s Julie Meeks.

Both sessions are open to the public for an admission fee of $7.

Two other county players were also honored by the IBCA.

Western Boone’s Emily Harrison and Lebanon’s Kristen Spolyar were named Honorable Mention Underclassmen All-State.

Harrison, a junior, averaged 14.7 points and 10.0 rebounds this season for the Stars helping them place second in the conference.

Spolyar, a freshman, led the Tigers in scoring (19.0 points), rebounds (7.6) and steals (4.2).
