Tigers comeback, earn split with Stars

Dover — Monday night’s softball contest between Lebanon and Western Boone was similar to the first meeting between the two schools — just in reverse.

This time, Western Boone jumped out to a sizable lead in the middle innings, only to see the Tigers comeback and win 13-8 in nine innings.

“We didn’t give up and I was happy to see that,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “There are some other games that we have gotten behind and haven’t been able to dig out of it. You can tell that our girls were focused and they kept it simple and went out-by-out just trying to win the inning. We were able to get some runs and key hits.”

Western Boone plated five in the second inning.

Lauren Wilson singled and after a strike out, Ashley Burns singled and Hannah Williams walked to load the bases.

Savannah Bealmear hit a two-run single up the middle to plate the first runs, and after a single by Taylor Vanderpool reloaded the bases, Lydia Climer drove in two more to make it 4-0.

Vanderpool later scored on a throwing error when Climer was stealing second.

Lebanon got on the board in the fourth. Hannah Dybalski hit a one-out double and Lexy Britt followed with an infield single that saw a poor throw get past first baseman Kelci Johnson and allowed Dybalski to score.

After a single by Madelyn Smith, Kendall McCollum hit an RBI-single and Makayla Copeland hit a RBI-sacrifice fly to make it 5-3.
