Anderson hands Lebanon 3rd-straight loss

Lebanon — The Lebanon Tigers string of February opponents continued Tuesday night when they welcomed the 14-4 Anderson Indians to Rosenstihl Gymnasium.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, the result was the same as their previous two February games against 4A opponents — a loss. Anderson jumped out to double-digit lead in the first half and held on in the second half for a 75-60 win.

“We dug a hole early in the game,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix said. “We were down 17-7, and you could see how the night was going to go. We did attempt to fight back, but they have five guys who can play on the perimeter, which forced Cord to go and guard someone out on the perimeter which he hasn’t had to do much this year. It is just one of those deals that if we didn’t dig ourselves such a hole — in the second half we played them pretty even.”

Anderson scored the first seven points of the contest to go up 7-0 with 5:38 left in the quarter. Caleb Brannon kept the Tigers close — scoring all of the team’s points in the first quarter — and Lebanon trailed 17-10 after a quarter.

The Indians started the second quarter on a 12-3 spurt to go up 29-13 on a 3-pointer by Grant Bennett with 3:27 to go in the half.

The lead was 13 at the half and Lebanon was held to just 31.8 percent (7 of 22) shooting in the first 16 minutes.

“I think their ball pressure was good and they did a good job of getting in the passing lanes,” Hendrix said of Anderson. “We talked about it in practice, but we just didn’t do a good job of attacking the basket. Finally in the second half, we got Jacob Nelson to drive and do some of the things he has been doing in the beginning of the season and it made it big difference. It relieved some of the pressure and allowed us to do what we wanted to.”
