Tigers sweep Panthers on senior day

McCollum, Smith get 100th career victories

Lebanon — The Lebanon Tigers’ softball team, ranked eighth in Class 3A, finished the regular season out on a high note Saturday, sweeping a double-header from North Central.

The Tigers won game one 3-1, and followed it up with a 14-1 win in game two on senior day.

“We had a good focus today,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “We had a good start with a 3-1 win, honored our seniors, and came back in the second game even more relaxed and gave every girl in the dugout some playing time. That was important.”

The wins were No. 100 and 101 in the careers of four-year varsity players Kendall McCollum and Madelyn Smith.

It is the second-straight class that has eclipsed the 100-win mark.

“We have been fortunate here in Lebanon the last four or five years,” Smith said. “We have had some pretty good teams and some really good talent come through. It is nice to get those accomplished. They had that in the back of their mind and with a rain shortened season, it was concerning whether they would have a chance. But they did, and they earned it and next year’s seniors know what it takes t keep that going.”
