Tigers bounce back with win over Zionsville

For the fourth-straight season Lebanon claimed supremacy in the Boone County girls basketball rivalry with Zionsville. The host Tigers raced out to a big lead and were able to hang on for a 52-42 win at Rosenstihl Gym Saturday. “I thought we played a great first half. It was tremendous for us,” Lebanon coach Beth DeVinney said. “We struggled a lot earlier this week with Ritter then came back and were able to have a tremendous game from Carly Greene and Peyton Terrill.” Greene made a statement early on by scoring 10 of her game-high 15 points as the Tigers (1-1) were able to open a comfortable 17-4 lead after only eight minutes. Lebanon was able to take advantage of eight first quarter turnovers by the Eagles and Zionsville hit on only 1 of 7 field goal attempts. The lone Zionsville field goal came just 24 seconds into the game as Laurie King tied the game at two. The Eagles would go more than 11 minutes before hitting another field goal, and hit on only 2 of 13 first half attempts as they trailed 23-8 at halftime. “I thought we stood around a lot and looked really tentative,” Zionsville coach Andy Maguire said. “I said at halftime, ‘look, we’ve just got to attack. We have to be the more aggressive team on offense.’ I feel like we didn’t change a whole lot after that except to attack more.” In addition to Greene, Kristin Spolyar was able to provide a huge spark for the Tigers.
