Cougars end Lebanon’s season

Linden —  The Lebanon baseball team entered Monday’s midday sectional semifinal with North Putnam on a roll, having won nine of their last 10 games.

And unfortunately for the Tiger faithful, the Cougars were able to cool down their hometown team. North Putnam jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first three innings and held on a for a 6-1 victory.

“North Putnam did a good job of capitalizing on a couple of our mistakes,” Lebanon head coach Rick Cosgray said. “Whether it be a walk or an error, they were able to capitalize. That is to their credit.”

After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars took the 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI-double by Kaleb Belcher.

The Tigers put two on in the bottom half of the inning but were unable to score, and North Putnam broke the game open in the third.

A one-out error allowed Kyler Badten to reach and Brody Perrine followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out.

A walk to Michael Herrmann loaded the bases and Badten scored on a wild pitch when Lebanon pitcher Travis Herrin couldn’t get the tag down in time.

Jake Haste followed with a two-run single and later scored on another error to make it 5-0.
