The bats weren’t working for the 10th-ranked Western Boone softball team Monday afternoon — so they went to the small-ball approach.
The Stars capitalized on seven Southmont errors and completed a two-game conference sweep with a 7-4 win.
“I’m happy that we were able to come back and beat them like we did last week,” Western Boone head coach Mike Vanderpool said. “I knew that this was going to be a tough game and that they were going to come back and play us tough. I am just happy to pull one out.”
Western Boone jumped ahead in the first inning on a RBI-sacrifice fly by Lydia Climer and a RBI-single by Kelci Johnson.
Southmont came back in the top of the second, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
That lead stood until the fourth inning.
