Stars pull away with eight-run third

Dover — After an inning Tuesday evening in the Sagamore Conference softball match-up between Frankfort and Western Boone, it looked like it would be a slugfest between the two teams.

But while the Stars’ bats continued to hit, the Hot Dogs’ bats did not. Western Boone scored 13 runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 13-2 five inning win.

“I am happy with the way our bats came back,” Western Boone head coach Mike Vanderpool said. “It started last night against Rossville and I told the girls that it was nice to see our bats warming up because they went stale for a week or so there. Good to see them going again.”

Frankfort hit four singles and scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead.

But it didn’t last long.

Hannah Williams, Lauren Wilson and Taylor Vanderpool hit three-straight singles to load the bases leading off the bottom of the first.

Lydia Climer followed with a two-run single to tie the game and put runners on second and third when she advanced on the throw.

After Kelci Johnson hit an RBI-ground out to score Vanderpool, Savannah Bealmear singled to put runners on the corners.

The Stars executed a double steal, and while Bealmear was throw out at second, Climer scored to make it 4-2.

Western Boone went on to score another in the second inning, when Williams scored on a wild pitch.
