Tigers trying to surpass last season’s success

Lebanon — Last year was the greatest in Lebanon softball history, as the Tigers finished 29-3 and just seven outs from a berth in the state championship game.

And while they lost three key players to graduation, the Tigers return a strong nucleus that has them thinking about another deep postseason run.

“You set the bar high and hope you can play at the same level every year,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “I think these girls have high hopes; a lot of these girls played in that game and they want to have another opportunity to play at that level. We set that as a new goal, and hopefully we play hard and focused and we can get back there.”

The weather has prevented the Tigers from getting outside much this pre-season, but Smith said the Tigers have done well with what they have been able to do.

“We have been doing a lot of conditioning while we have been indoors and taking advantage of a lot of fundamental work,” Smith said. “The girls are responding really well; I like how hard the have been working. They have stayed focused. This is the longest we have been indoors in a long time and it is kind of aggravating and we will get outside eventually, but they are working hard and staying focused.”

The Tigers will have leaders back with Lexy Britt (catcher), Whitney Cosgray (infield/outfield), Carly Greene (infield), Payton Hollis (infield), Kendall McCollum (infield), Ashlyn Montgomery (pitcher) and Madelyn Smith (infield).

The biggest changes may come for Greene, who will transition from centerfield to second base and Cosgray who will see some time at shortstop after playing the outfield last year.
