Montgomery nearly perfect against Hot Dogs

Tiger pitcher throws perfect game, two hitter in double header

Frankfort — Lebanon’s No. 1 pitcher, junior Ashlyn Montgomery, was outright dominant in Monday’s doubleheader against Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Frankfort.

Montgomery pitched every inning, throwing a five-inning perfect game in a 13-0 Game 1 victory and a two-hitter in the Tigers’ 13-2 decision in the nightcap. Montgomery didn’t allow a baserunner until the third inning of the second game when Laina Boggs reached on an error, and didn’t allow a hit until two batters later when Becca Mullins singled to drive in Boggs.

“We had girls touching the ball but it was right at them,” said Frankfort head coach Katie Wyant. “You’re going to have games like that, and it was two games (Monday) it seemed like. Girls were going up to bat and swinging at good pitches, but it was right at somebody else’s glove.”

Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said Montgomery normally wouldn’t have pitched both games, but No. 2 pitcher Jessica Weaver is recovering from a concussion and the Tigers have four more games in the week, leaving Montgomery to handle duties on Monday.

“Someone else is going to have to step up sometime and pitch this week but she had a strong performance,” Smith said. “When she’s hitting her spots, she’s pretty hard to hit. She gets a lot of ground balls by the way she throws. Our defense, for the most part, was pretty good.”

Kylee Cooper had the other Frankfort (7-6, 3-5 SAC) hit in the second game.
