Spolyar’s walk-off slam stuns North Mont.

Lebanon — For 5 1/2 innings, the Lebanon Tigers looked like they were in trouble Tuesday night against conference foe North Montgomery.

But then the Tigers’ bats came to life. Lebanon scored seven runs in the final two innings — including five in the final frame — and shocked North Montgomery 10-9 when senior Michael Spolyar hit a walk-off, two-out grand slam.

The Tigers are now 8-4 on the season, including 6-2 in the Sagamore Conference.

The Chargers are also now 6-2 in the conference.

North Montgomery led 9-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning and seemed to be well on their way out of the inning with just a runner on first and two outs.

But Brantley Fortner and Spolyar hit back-to-back singles to load the bases, and Nick Starkey reached on an error that allowed two runs to score to make it 9-5.

After Jackson Bennett sent the Chargers down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh, the Tigers went back to work.

Coty Edwards led the inning off with a single, but was forced out at second on a fielders’ choice off the bat of Ryan Reese.

Travis Herrin walked to put two runners on, but Bennett struck out to put Lebanon one-out away from a loss.

Nathan Kincaid singled on the first pitch he saw to load the bases for Fortner, who reached on an error that scored Reese and made the score 9-6.

Up came Spolyar, and after taking a ball, sent the second pitch he saw from Brinton Sieferman over the wall for the walk-off win.

Edwards was 4-for-4 with a run scored for the Tigers.

Fortner and Spolyar both went 2-for-4.

Bennett got the win, pitching the seventh inning and retiring all three batters he faced.

Herrin started and took a no decision.

He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up six hits and six runs (five earned).

He struck out six and walked three.

The two teams will meet again Thursday, this time at North Montgomery.

First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
