New coach to lead Tigers this fall

Lebanon — There will be a new man at the helm of the Lebanon volleyball team this fall. Steve Hawthorne takes over from Rob Zajdel this fall and will lead a strong Lebanon team. "So far they have embraced (the coaching change)," Hawthorne said. "We have been fairly disciplined and I think they have bought in to what we are trying to do and where we are trying to go." Hawthorne said the girls have worked hard throughout the summer and through the first two weeks of official practice. The Tigers start the season today against Speedway. "What I really like is I have seen a lot of drive out of the girls," Hawthorne said of the opening weeks of practice. "I see a lot of excitement about getting better. They have learned a lot already during the summer and the first couple of weeks of practice. They seem to be really excited about what's to come." The Tigers finished last season 12-20 and 2-5 in the Sagamore Conference. But they won four of their final six matches — with the only two losses coming to sectional champion Western Boone. Hawthorne said with what the team is returning this season, the Tigers are hoping for a winning record. For more of this story, read Tuesday's Lebanon Reporter.
