New coach, same hopes for Western Boone

There will be a new leader of the Western Boone football team this season. Jed Richman left for Lawrence Central after three successful seasons as head coach of the Stars, and Justin Pelley has taken over the reigns of the team. "They bought in," Pelley said of the kids. "It took a little bit, and change is never easy, but once we got rolling and they saw what we were doing and how invested our coaches were to the program, it was easy for them to buy in. Now we are started to gel together at the right time." Pelley said Tuesday afternoon that he has liked what he has seen from his squad so far in practice. But at the same time, he knows it isn't nearly a finished project. "We are still trying to learn," Pelley said. "I'm still trying to learn what we have and see a lot of guys go both ways. These kids are really gritty and I learned that during the summer. Our kids aren't scared of working. But right now we are still putting things in offensively and defensively and moving people around." For more of this story, read Wednesday's Lebanon Reporter.
