Hot Dogs upset ranked West

The Class 3A No. 4 Western Boone football team did exactly what they wanted to on the opening drive Friday night against Frankfort. But after that, the Hot Dogs responded. The Stars took a 6-0 lead just six minutes into the game, but didn't score the rest of the way in a 7-6 loss to Frankfort. "Credit to Frankfort's defense," Western Boone head coach Justin Pelley said. "On film they really impressed me. They are really big, really strong and aggressive. They did a nice job and had a great game plan for us. We are a little beat up right now. We had some young guys try to step in and they did a great job too, we were just a little out-manned tonight. Credit to Frankfort, they did a nice job." The two teams came in with opposite records. The Stars blew out Sheridan and Clinton Central to go to 2-0, while Frankfort lost their first two contests, including a triple overtime game to Twin Lakes last week. Hot Dog head coach Mike Quick said his team has come a long way in three weeks. "Week one, we played Western to a 6-0 game at halftime and they came out in the second half and literally took us to the woodshed," Quick said. "We went back to square one. Honestly, we had chances to win last week and couldn't and I was really disappointed. To come out tonight, against a ranked team — that is a tribute to the respect they get in the state — and win; by golly I think we got some respect tonight. I am really proud of our guys and you can see we have grown since week one. To pull a win out over here, I am just really excited." Western Boone took the opening kick off and went 71-yards on 13 plays, scoring on a 27-yard pass from Logan Wethington to Parker Boone. The extra point was missed wide left. The Stars converted two fourth downs on the drive and appeared like they would continue to have success offensively. For more of this story, read Saturday's Lebanon Reporter.
