Bruins hold off Western Boone

The Western Boone defense did all they could Friday night against visiting Tri-West. But in the end, Tri-West quarterback Jake Hendershot and the rest of the Bruins were just a little too strong in a 28-20 victory. The loss dropped Western Boone to 5-2, while Tri-West improved to the same record. "I am proud of our kids second-half effort," Western Boone head coach Justin Pelley said. "We came out a little flat and you can't do that against a team like Tri-West, they are going to capitalize. Now, our defense played out of their mind tonight. We forced for turnovers and no one has done that on them this year. But our offense stalled in the first half, and it wasn't until the second half until we got rolling a little bit. It is just kids thinking too much, we just have to play. But I am proud of the kids effort." Tri-West head coach Chris Coll said it was a good hard-nosed football game that both teams should be proud of. "Both teams played hard and it was just one of those games that was a great football game," Coll said. "We would have been disappointed if we didn't come out on top, but you can't walk away from this field tonight without feeling like you saw two teams battling their butts off. I am happy to be a part of it and come out on top." The game was tied after a quarter of play, with Tri-West scoring on a 3-yard run by Hendershot and Western Boone countering with a 59-yard touchdown pass from Logan Wethington to Austin Burtner. Tri-West reclaimed the lead on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Hendershot to Colton Jobe. For more of this story, read Saturday's Lebanon Reporter.
