Tigers hold off host Westfield 56-53

Westfield — Lebanon remained perfect on the road Saturday night as the Tigers held off a physical Westfield basketball team at Westfield High School Saturday.

The Tigers beat the Shamrocks 56-53 in a game that went back-and-forth for much of the game.

Lebanon senior Caleb Brannon led the Tigers with 28 points, while senior Cord Barricklow pulled down 18 rebounds.

With the win, the Tigers are now 12-2 overall.

Coach Albert Hendrix knew this would be a tough battle coming in.

“I knew our kids would be a little tired tonight,” Hendrix said. “And it showed in the first half a little bit where we just couldn’t do anything right. But, we were able to stay in the game and keep it tied at halftime. I felt like our kids just battled the entire second half. This was a very physical game with a lot of fouls called in the second half. I know that we got into the double bonus, but there were still a lot of fouls that I don’t think got called. I thought our kids really buckled down and came through at the end.”

Brannon agreed.

“I think we played hard,” Brannon said. “We were a little sluggish at the beginning. But, we picked it up. We were missing two guys with a lot of athleticism and ball handling, so that threw us back a little. But, I was proud of the guys tonight. We fought hard.”

Lebanon came out strong going up 6-0 with 5:45 left in the first quarter on buckets by Jake Marshall, Barricklow, and Jacob Nelson.

But, Westfield battled back and went on a 10-3 run to end the first quarter highlighted by eight quick points from Westfield senior Ajay Lawton to give the Rocks a 10-9 lead.
