Zionsville -- An 8-year-old boy attending a day camp in Lions Park in Zionsville said a man molested him along one of the park’s trails at around 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27.

Zionsville Police Department Detective Rob Knox said the child was at the park with a group from the Arthur Jordan YMCA from Indianapolis when the alleged molestation occurred.

According to police, the incident occurred on a trail in Lions Park just south of State Road 334. Allegedly, the man approached the boy and offered him money to allow him to perform a sexual act with him. After the act was performed, a YMCA camp counselor who was looking for the boy saw the man flee on foot down the trail, Knox said. Another counselor gave chase, but was unable to catch the man, who ran north down the trail, under the bridge and disappeared.

The suspect is described as being a young adult white male who is at least 6 feet tall with brown hair. Witnesses said he was wearing a red shirt, and police think he dropped the baseball hat he was wearing on the trail when he fled. The hat is a frayed white Chicago Bulls cap with a black bull stitched on the side.

“The little boy told the counselor (the suspect) had dropped his hat on the trail, and they went and retrieved it,” Knox said.

Knox said children should always be supervised by adults when they are outside, and said anyone who notices any suspicious activity should call the police. A call to the Jordan YMCA for comment has not yet been returned.

Anyone with information about the case should call ZPD Detective Rob Knox or Detective Charles White at (317) 873-5967.
