Dwight M. Shoemaker

Sheridan

1933-2008

Dwight M. Shoemaker, 75, of Sheridan, died Thursday, May 3, 2008, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.

He was born March 12, 1933, in Boone County, to the late Fred and Lois (Bannon) Shoemaker. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1951.

Mr. Shoemaker was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant.

He married Sandra J. Bridgeman on April 30, 1959. She survives.

He spent a busy life as a farmer. He sold DeKalb seed corn and was a member of and served as Supervisor for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association for 45 years. He also was the rural letter carrier for Sheridan’s R.R. #3 and R.R. #1 for more than 30 years, before retiring from the Sheridan Post Office in 1998.

Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau and a 10-year member of the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. He was an avid woodworker. He also was a member of Little Eagle Creek Christian Church.

In addition to woodworking, Mr. Shoemaker enjoyed photography and model trains.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Anita (Jeff) Salyers of Roachdale, and Janice (David) Lors of West Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Rosalyn (Gene) Stuckey of Sheridan; four grandchildren, Hillary and Chase Salyers, and Cindy and Jennifer Lors; and two nephews, Steve and Kevin Stuckey.

Mr. Shoemaker’s parents preceded him in death.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, the Rev. Steven Yarbrough officiating. Interment will be in Mts. Runn Cemetery.
