D. Joe Wood

Mr. D. Joe Wood, 84, of Lebanon, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at his residence.

Joe was born March 29, 1929, in Hamilton County, near Carmel. He was a son of the now late George Milton and Laura Ruth (Stephenson) Wood. At an early age, Joe and his family moved from Hamilton County to Boone County. He was a 1947 graduate of Kirklin High School.

In 1948, he married Marilyn E. Newman in Boone County.

Having lived in many locations around Boone County, Joe spent most of his life in Lebanon. For many years he farmed with his father. He worked at the Rock Island Refinery, and he also worked full time in real estate for the Harman Agency until his retirement.

A dedicated father and grandfather, Joe loved spending time with his family. For 17 years, he spent his winters in Punta Gorda, Fla., where he had many good times with many good friends. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching NASCAR.

Joe attended Christian Liberty Church in Boone County.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda D. Campbell of Columbus, and Deborah E. (Jim) Shubert, Nancy J. (Rex) Goldsberry and Jane A. Wood, all of Lebanon; brother, Jeffrey (Sharon) Wood of Lebanon; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nephews; and his special friend, Eleanor VanDuinen of Michigan.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Wood.

Private graveside services will be held Monday, April 22, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.

Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, is handling the arrangements for cremation.
