---- — Avonelle Selby, 83, of Lebanon, passed away in peace on Feb. 17, 2014. Known to her friends as Avie and family as Mom or Grandma Selby, she was born in Minnesota and spent most of her remarkable life in Indiana. She graduated from West Lafayette HS and attended Purdue University. She married Jerrod Selby in October of 1950 and raised a happy and strong family together until his death in 2008. She is survived by children Ron Selby (Janet) of Zionsville, Jim Selby (Ann) of Indianapolis, Bob Selby (Valerie) of Irmo, S.C., and Carol Scarborough (Doug) of Little Rock, Ariz. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and brothers Warren Scott (Margaret) of Modesto, Calif. and David Bruce Scott of Avon Park, Fla.
Avie was a remarkable wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
Her down-to-earth sensibility and tender nature built a strong family with close ties and loving memories that will last forever. Furthermore, Avie was an accomplished professional, working for IPS school 108, tutoring with project Head Start, and finally working for Meridian Insurance until her retirement in 1995. In retirement, she continued as an active member of the Boone County and Lebanon community and the Central Christian Church. Avie will be remembered by her family and friends as a strong woman with deep convictions and a loving nature.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 for visitation from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 pm. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Burial will follow at Browns Wonder Cemetery in Lebanon.
