Mr. Daniel Albert Parks, 75, of Zionsville, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born in Lebanon on Sept. 7, 1938, a son to the now late Albert Seth Parks Jr. and T. Hortense (Routh) Parks.
Dan was raised in Boone County and graduated from Whitestown High School in 1956 and later attended Purdue University.
He married Colleen R. (Powner) Parks on Feb. 14, 1960, in Indianapolis. After 54 loving years together, Mrs. Parks survives.
Dan was a grain and livestock farmer, raising Polled Herefords.
He was a devoted and compassionate man who deeply loved and cared for his family. He enjoyed his daughter’s and his grandchildren’s activities as they grew. He took great pride of his John Deere Collection, both large and small.
He was a member of Zionsville Christian Church, past president and active member of Boone County Antique Tractor Club, member of Feeders & Breeders Association where he received the Distinguished Agricultural Award, member of the Boone County 4-H Clubs Fair Board and Council, past Master Celestial Lodge No. 525 in Whitestown, member of Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, Past Patron of Eastern Star No. 248 in Whitestown, Boone Mutual Insurance Board of Director, and a member of the Mts. Runn Cemetery Board.
Survivors include wife Mrs. Colleen R. Parks of Zionsville; daughter Deanna Hart and husband Rene of Whitestown; brother Tom Parks and wife Sharon of Unionville, Mo.; sister Edith “Edie” Jordan and husband Bill of Cross Junction, Va.; brother-in-law Larry Powner and wife Gale of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Levi Lewis and wife Megan of Brownsburg, and Sarah Hoopingarner and husband Rob of North Salem; two step-grandchildren, Gwen O’Malley and husband Tim of Indianapolis, and Kirsten Liden and husband Toby of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, R.J. Hoopingarner, Luke Lewis, Nora Liden, and Grace O’Malley; and several nieces and nephews.
