Katherine V. Wood

Katherine V. Wood, 93, of Franklin, went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 3, 2014, with her family at her side.

Katherine was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Hart Co., Ky., to James Oscar and Emily Ann (Puckett) Avery.

She was a devoted wife to Gilbert “Woody” Wood, whom she married on Feb. 26, 1938. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2010. Together they owned Woody’s Stop 11. They were also Amway Distributors for many years. She worked at the Providence Grocery when she was younger, in addition to being a homemaker for her children.

Katherine was a member of Meridian Church of God, and she also participated in the Bargersville Senior Citizens Fashion Show later in her life. She loved to do crafts, play bingo and play cards. She loved to travel with Woody and to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be very missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her son, Wallace (Diane) Wood; daughters, Judith Ann Coomer, Phyllis Joan Bechert, Theresa Lynn (John) Clark and Kathleen (Jeffrey) Anderson; and 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Gilbert L. Wood; granddaughter, Debra A. Bemis; brothers, Hillard “Jack,” Duard, James Taylor and Paul Avery; and sisters, Zelma Waymen, Arlene Clark and Marion Conover.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E. 91st St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240; or to New Hope Hospice.
