---- — Mr. Victor Worrell “Vic” Jones, 76, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Parkwood Health Care Center in Lebanon.

Vic was born on Dec. 6, 1937, in Clearfield, Pa., the son of the now late Victor Worrell and Ruth (Litz) Jones.

As a resident of Clearfield, Vic was active in school sports. He participated in football and baseball, and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1955. He was an outstanding athlete and was offered a football scholarship to any college in the United States. Vic chose to attend Indiana University where, he was an outstanding fullback for the Hoosiers. He completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in education while at IU.

Vic married the love of his life, Linda Marie Papworth, on July 1, 1961, in Monticello.

His first teaching position was in Lebanon, where he started teaching in the elementary system and then taught in the high school, for a total of 36 years. Early in his career, he established physical education programs for Lebanon Junior High School and the elementary schools in the Lebanon system. At Lebanon High School, Vic taught physical education, health and drivers education. In addition, he coached football, track and wrestling during his career. During his time as a coach, Vic was the recipient of numerous awards and recognition for the successes of his athletes and teams, including David Clark becoming the state wrestling champion in his weight class.

Fishing and boating were on the list of Vic’s enjoyments. He loved the family’s lake house in LaFollette, Tenn., where they entertained their family the past 10 years. Vic’s son, Todd, had worked to build the lake home for all to enjoy. Vic always followed the activities and sporting events of his two children. In addition, he took pride in attending grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

Vic was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Lebanon. He was a life-member of the following: Lebanon Elks Lodge, Indiana University Alumni Association, Indiana University Lettermen and Indiana State Teachers Association. He was a member of the Boone County Retired Teachers Association and the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame for High School Wrestlers, a volunteer for the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, a member of the American Legion in Lebanon and the Butler Bull Dogs Association. He served on the Lebanon Parks Board for 10 years, and was vice-president of the board of directors for Norris Lake in Tennessee.

Vic also was an inductee of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Jones of Lebanon; two children, Victoria Linn “Vickie” (Robert) Daupert of Jamestown, and Todd Alan (Lori) Jones of Hamilton, Ohio; one brother, Bill (Marietta) Jones of Clearfield, Pa.; five grandchildren, Erica L. (Zach) Snow of Tempe, Ariz., Lindsay L. Colgrove of Greenwood, and Morgan M. Jones, Marisa L. Jones and Troy D. Jones, all of Hamilton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Hoovin, Eleanor Putt and Mary Jane Jones.

Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 910 E. Fordice Road, Lebanon. Elks rites and a celebration of life will be held Thursday at the church, beginning with Elks Rites at 6 p.m. The Rev. Jim Ramsey will officiate. A family interment service will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, following cremation.
