James R. Tyre



Mr. James R. “Jim” Tyre, 77, of Lebanon, died March 20, 2013, at The Palms Healthcare Center in Sebring, Fla., with his wife at his side. Jim was born in Lebanon on Sept. 19, 1935, the son of the late Walter Ray and Mary Moore Tyre. He married Janet Heinbaugh on Sept. 12, 1959. Jim was a lifelong resident of Lebanon, graduated from Lebanon High School and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Essex from 1956 to 1958 and remained in the reserves until 1962. He worked with the Federal Court System for 27 years and retired in 1988 as Clerk of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

Jim was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Life member of the Lebanon Elks, F&AM Lodge No. 9, The American Legion and former member of the Ulen Country Club.

For many years Jim enjoyed vacationing with his family and fishing at their cottage on Dogtooth Lake in Canada. The last several winters were spent in Lake Placid, Fla., where he enjoyed visiting with family and friends. His hobbies included golfing, cooking and gardening.

Survivors in addition to his wife are sons, W. Richard “Rick” (Tammy Cook) Tyre of Lebanon and Robert “Rob” (Kristian Green) Tyre of Maineville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Jennifer Tyre of Maineville and Katelyn Tyre of Cold Springs, Ky.; a sister, Lolabelle Davis of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents.

Family and friends will gather Friday, March 29, for visitation from 4 until 7 p.m. with Elks rites at 7 p.m., in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m., at the mortuary, with the Rev. Jim Ramsey and the Rev. Marcy Patrick officiating. Mr. Tyre will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.
