Joe E. Thomas

Joe Edward Thomas, 74, of Jamestown, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013.

He was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Lagnau, Ky., son of William C Thomas and Nancy (Johnson) Thomas.

Joe loved woodworking, landscaping and gardening. He loved spending time with his kids, and especially his grandkids. He was the president of the Jamestown Town Council and a supporter of the fire department. Joe was an avid volunteer, and was a member of Jamestown American Legion Post 395 and UAW Union 933.

Surviving are his wife, Mary A. Thomas of Jamestown; daughter, Sherri (Chad) Grizzle of Lebanon, son, Ken (Dawn) Thomas of Watertown, Tenn., and daughter, Teresa (Ron) Schafer of Lebanon; mother, Nancy (Johnson) Thomas; brothers, James Everett (Mary Lou) Thomas, David (Karen) Thomas, Don Thomas and Rick Thomas; sisters, Mary Rose Thomas, Sue (Jim) Hayes and Betty (Robert) Urban; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William C Thomas; and brothers, Ernest Thomas and Bill Thomas.

Family and friends will gather from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Porter Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Jamestown. Services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Ailes officiating. Joe will be laid to rest following the service in the Jamestown I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
