Mr. Jerome "Leo" Kemna, 83, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.
Leo was born in Palo Alto County, Iowa, near West Bend, on Sept. 15, 1930. He was a son of the now late John Henry and Helen (Zeimet) Kemna.
He grew up in West Bend, Iowa, where he attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School through the eighth grade. He then moved with his family to Bancroft, Iowa, and graduated from St. John’s High School with the class of 1949. Following school, he spent two years working on his father’s farm and spent a year working for Western Waterproofing. He was then drafted into the service in February 1952, where he took basic training in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He served his country as a Corporal for 18 months, stationed in Germany and France. He was honorably discharge in January 1954.
On May 10, 1958, Leo was married to Bonnie Louise Ousley in Jefferson City, Mo.; she survives.
Following his military service, in August 1954, Leo began his career as a branch manager with Mid Continental Restoration Company in Ft. Scott, Kan. He moved to Lebanon in 1967, and opened this branch of Mid Continental serving mainly Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
Leo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lebanon; St. Joseph’s Holy Name Society/Knights of Columbus, Lebanon; and Lebanon Elk’s Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie L. Kemna of Lebanon; six children, Jerome Leo “Jerry” Kemna of Carmel, James Scott Kemna of Indianapolis, Robert Joseph (Brenda) Kemna of Noblesville, Donna Sue Willenberg of Lebanon, and Elaine Gail Kemna and Mark Alan (Kim) Kemna, all of Fishers; one brother, John (Randy) Kemna of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three sisters, Rosie Dudding of Bancroft, Iowa, Alavine (Gordon) Delperding of Bancroft and Irene (John) Rosensteel of Corwith, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Michael Kemna, Jason Kemna, Kelly Kemna, Courtney Kemna, Tiann Kemna, Race Ewing, Maggie Ewing and Crystal Kemna; and two great-grandchildren, Lilly Klaen and Stuart Kemna.
