---- — Mary Helen Smay, 85, Ocala, Fla., and formerly of Lebanon, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Legacy House in Ocala.

She was born on Dec. 24, 1928, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Howard Dale and Matilda Agnes (Walker) Nicholas.

Mary Helen was raised and educated in Indianapolis and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1946.

She was first married to Robert Moldthan; after 18 years of marriage, they divorced. On May 19, 1964, she was married to Robert Warren Smay in Lafayette. Mr. Smay passed away on Dec. 13, 1987.

In 1974, Mary Helen moved from Indianapolis to Frankton and then to Lebanon in 1978. She was dedicated to her family and loved staying at home with her children as they were growing up. For a period of time, she worked for the Telephone Company, Avon Cosmetics, and J.C. Penney as a sales clerk.

In addition to her family and her friends, Mary Helen enjoyed dancing, bowling, and reading.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon.

Survivors include four children, John H. Moldthan and wife, Kathy, of St. Louis, Mo., Thomas J. Moldthan and wife, Karen, of Newman, Ga., Steven R. Moldthan and wife, Brenda, of Leesburg, Fla., and Patricia A. Baker, of Ocala, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Judith A. Smay of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Robert Graham, Wade Graham, Wendi Moldthan, Jenafer (Moldthan) Vespucci, Tracy (Moldthan) Carlson, Travis Moldthan, Chad Moldthan, Johnny Moldthan, Tommy Moldthan, and 13 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Kayla, Cody, Brittany, Evan, Amber, Eric, Dylan, Samantha, Noah, Dustin, Emma and Delilah.

In addition to her parents, Mary Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Joanne Baker and Mary Margaret Nicholas, and a stepson, James Richard Smay.A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 319 East South St., in Lebanon, Indiana, with Rev. Timothy Kroeger, officiating. Visitation is planned for Thursday, Feb.13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon St., in Lebanon.

The Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday prior to visitation.

Interment will follow services at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lebanon.
