Hugh R. Wiley, 84, of Indianapolis, died Jan. 2, 2014, at Clare Bridge of Carmel.
He was born Jan. 13, 1929, on the family farm in Boone County to Arthur Newton and Mildred Flossie (Reish) Wiley.
He married Jacqueline Wesner on Jan. 27, 1950, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 1992. He then married Marilyn (Wills) Harding on Jan. 8, 1994, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 2013.
Hugh was a 1947 graduate of Kirklin High School and attended Purdue University, where he studied engineering. He was a tool and die maker at Allison Transmission, retiring in 1979 after 30 years. He was also a real estate agent. He was raised Methodist and was a member of the University Heights United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and was an associate member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon. Mr. Wiley taught Sunday school, enjoyed camping, traveling with his family, photography, real estate, enjoyed teaching kids and coached Little League football at Baxter YMCA. He was also an avid Colts fan and a Purdue fan.
Survivors include four daughters, Pam (Tom) Gonder of Ocean Springs, Miss.; Liz (Randy) Bowman of Noblesville; Sue Inman of Fishers; and Melinda (Larry) Wilson of Indianapolis; three sons, Phil (Rita) Wiley of Indianapolis; Fred (Jan) Wiley of Indianapolis; and Ed (Tracey) Wiley of Indianapolis; three step-children, Scott T (Karen) Harding; Sara J. Harpham; and Steve Harding; brother Robert N. (Roberta) Wiley of Thorntown; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Wiley, a brother, Bruce Wiley and a step-daughter, Susan Harding.
Visitation will be 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Goodwin Funeral Home, with the service following at 2:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Mud Creek Cemetery in Boone County.
