Betty A. Lowe

Mrs. Betty Ann Smith Lowe, 87, of Lebanon, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon.

She was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Lebanon, a daughter of the now late Donald and Esther (Copenhaver) Dickerson. Betty grew up in the Lebanon community, where she graduated from Lebanon High School.

She married Robert Earl Smith on May 17, 1946. Mr. Smith passed away on May 3, 1982. She then married James Edward Lowe Jr. on June 25, 1986, in Frankfort. Mr. Lowe passed away on Oct. 1, 2001.

Betty was a longtime employee of Indiana Bell Telephone, where she worked as an operator in Lebanon and Indianapolis. She also operated a concession stand at the Indiana State Fair for 43 years.

She was a devoted a wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included making leather items and flowers.

Survivors include three children, Susie (Michael) Lewis, Ronald E. Smith and Deborah Jean Hook, all of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Andrea (Troy) Yoder and April (Brad) Garner, all of Lebanon, and Joel McWaters of Whitestown; nine great-grandchildren, Kendra Yoder, Abigail Yoder, Garrett Yoder, Jordan Yoder, Madison Garner, Mackenzie Garner, Molly Garner, Meredith Garner and Mason McWaters; half-brother, Ed (Ruth) Dickerson Troy, Ohio; and half-sister, Alma Heyl of Sebring, Fla.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and a son, Robert Earl Smith Jr.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boone County Cancer Society, Inc., 117 W. Elm St., Lebanon, IN 46052.
