---- — Robert William Hysong Sr., 78, of Lebanon, died Jan. 4, 2014, at his residence on the Hysong family farm. The son of the now late William Taft and Edith A. (Lasley) Hysong, Bob was born April 27, 1935, in Boone County. He was reared and educated in Lebanon, having graduated Lebanon High School with the class of 1953. While in high school, Bob was a member of the National Honor Society, served as officer in the FFA Club and was awarded the Harry Boone Messick Award.

Bob married Barbara Joan (Myers) Hysong on March 17, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon. Together they owned and operated a farm just south of town. His memberships included Lions Club, K of P and the First Baptist Church of Lebanon. In 2004, Bob was chosen by the Boone County Breeders and Feeders for the Distinguished Agriculture Career Award (used to be the Old Timers Award). Bob served on the Center Township Advisory Board and Center Township Fire Department Trustees Board. The Lebanon Lions Club awarded Bob the “Honorary Retired Lion” for 30 years of service to the club.

Except for his family, the love of Bob’s life was farming, playing cards and telling jokes.

Family and friends will gather from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. The Rev. David Wright will officiate Bob’s funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, in the mortuary. Bob will be laid to rest on Monday in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
