Mrs. Martha “Jean” Cook, 88, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.
Jean was born in Colfax on June 21, 1925, a daughter of the now late Eldon and Eva (Bowen) Stevens. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1943.
On June 9, 1946, she married Cline Devon Cook in Lafayette. Mr. Cook passed away on Oct. 18, 2002.
Devoted to her husband and sons, Jean was a homemaker for many years. After her sons were raised, she went to work at Turner, where she performed clerical duties. She was particular in her appearance and always made sure she looked her best when leaving the house.
Jean was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lebanon.
Survivors include two sons, Rex (Sheri) Cook and Eric (Jeannette) Cook, all of Lebanon; brother, Jack Stevens of Clarks Hill; five sisters, Maywood Winger and Joan Killian, both of Mulberry, Nina Thayer and Mary Mason, both of Lafayette, and Sue Clark of Brazil; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Phylis Neese.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a brother, Adrian “Bub” Stevens; three sons, Gregory E. Cook, Joe D. Cook and Jack Cook; and a grandson, Greg D. Cook.
Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington.
