Helen M. Harman

— Helen M. Harman died peacefully Feb. 3, 2013, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was 82. Born Jan. 15, 1931, in Lebanon, she was the second daughter of Velda (Jack) and Marie Temple Ulrey.

She was a 1948 graduate of Lebanon High School, and attended Indiana Central Business College in Indianapolis.

She married Robert M. Harman Sept. 14, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon.

Mrs. Harman started her business career at Stewart-Warner in Lebanon. She was receptionist for Dr. Ritchie Coons and worked in various capacities in the school system. She retired as city clerk-treasurer, after being elected for two terms.

Helen was an active member of the First Baptist Church since childhood, serving on numerous boards and committees, and was an excellent Sunday School teacher. She later transferred her membership to Centenary United Methodist Church. Her church friends were treasured.

Helen also had wonderful friends in a longstanding bridge club and prominent membership in Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She was the fourth Mrs. Boone County in 1962 and a Girl Scout Leader.

Bob and Helen delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years. She enjoyed extensive traveling, reading, needlework, and was a terrific cook.

Above all, she loved her family. She is survived by her dear husband, Bob; their daughters Janet Biggerstaff and Kathy Dickison; and grandchildren Tom (Melissa) Threlkeld, Sam Dickison, Marie Dickison, and Charlie Dickison. Helen Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jacqueline Ulrey Haisley.   

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon. Funeral services will be at Myers Mortuary on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Ramsey of Centenary United Methodist Church and Rev. Eugene Ton, formerly of First Baptist Church, will officiate.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels.
