Marilyn Marie Mathew

Marilyn Marie Mathew, 72, passed away on June 28, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was born in Chalmers on Dec. 1, 1940, to the late Leo and Marie (Bessler) Garing.

She was reared and educated in Kentland, where she graduated from Good Hope High School in 1958.  Following high school, she attended nursing school in Indianapolis.

On July 11, 1959, she was married to Wayne Joseph Mathew, in Kentland. Mr. Mathew survives.

Marilyn worked as an LPN for several healthcare facilities, most recently at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon.

Mrs. Mathew was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed every moment spent with her family.

 Survivors include her husband, Mr. Wayne Mathew of Lizton; four children, Lorie Rizzo and husband John of Huntington Beach, Calif., Larry Mathew and wife Marcy of Springfield, Ill., Gary Mathew of Lizton, and Lana Cramer and husband Robert of Indianapolis; two sisters, Marsha Miller and husband Gene of Kentland, and Marlene Sondgerath of Kentland; four brothers, Albert Garing and wife Helen of Kentland, Robert Garing and wife Barbara of Kentland, Francis Garing and wife Phyllis of Lafayette, and Richard Garing of Santee, S.C.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Louise Garing, and a brother-in-law, Tom Sondgerath.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon St., Lebanon. The Rosary will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., prior to the visitation.

The funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 319 East South St., in Lebanon, on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Timothy Kroeger officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Kentland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mrs. Mathew’s grandson, Evan Cramer Trust, for his autistic care.
