Bobby Gene Reeves


— Mr. Bobby Gene Reeves, 80, of Lebanon, died Monday, July 1, 2013.

Mr. Reeves was born Dec. 1, 1932, to Harold and Dorothy (McIntyre) Reeves. They are both deceased. He married Joy May Shirley on April 26, 1957; she survives.

Bobby graduated from Lebanon High School in 1951, where he participated in basketball, baseball and the first organized golf team. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict (1952-1956).

Bobby retired from GM Allison Transmission after 36 1/2 years of service. He had many hobbies including bird watching (robins and cardinals); playing euchre; hunting and fishing; playing golf; playing softball and baseball; bowling; and square dancing. He loved listening to big band songs and anything by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. He also loved watching old AMC channel classics, old westerns, and anything with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He spent most of his life in Boone County.

Survivors include his spouse, Joy; children: daughter, Debby Spidel and husband, Rick, of Lebanon; son, Dee Reeves and wife, Michaela, of Lebanon; and daughter, Karen Reeves-King of Carmel; grandchildren: Melissa Riker of Cicero, Megan Spidel of Lebanon, Katlyn Reeves of Lebanon and Collin King of Carmel. In addition, there are six great-grandchildren. Surviving in-laws include Linda Reeves, Helen Smith, and Harold and Joyce Shirley. Surviving aunts include Marie “Ree” McIntyre and Mert McIntire. Surviving uncle is Walter “Tobe” McIntyre. Several nieces and nephews also live in the Boone County area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Jack Reeves.

Family and friends will gather from 4 to 9 p.m. today, July 2, for visitation; with services to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Mr. Reeves will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon with military rites.
