Mr. Ralph E. Fisher, 88, of Lebanon, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, surrounded by his family at his residence. Mr. Fisher was a teacher at Central Elementary in Lebanon for many years having touched the lives of many young people in our community. He was instrumental in the success of the Central Patrol, a safety program that taught children how to be safe and responsible. Mr. Fisher also coached the Central Star basketball team; he was truly dedicated to his profession and the lives of those he was privileged to teach.
The son of Edward and Bessie (Esteb) Fisher, Ralph was born on July 24, 1924, in Mecca. He graduated from Lebanon High School and Butler University. He married Norma (Wright) Fisher on Oct. 24, 1942, in Thorntown. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a fighter pilot during World War II. His memberships included Boone Lodge #9 F&A.M. in Lebanon, where he served as past master; VFW Post 910 in Lebanon; American Legion Post in Lebanon; and Bethesda Baptist Church for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Karen (Norman) Stinson of Cloverdale; son, Ralph (Jennifer) Fisher of Muskegon, Mich.; brother, Glenn (Betty) Fisher of Tampa, Fla.; son-in-law, Chet Dickerson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Fisher of South Carolina; and 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Dickerson; and brother, Gerald Fisher.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 4 until 8 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. The Rev. Tony Maynard will officiate his funeral at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at the mortuary. Mr. Fisher will be laid to rest following military graveside rites in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
