D. Charlene Davis

D. Charlene Davis, age 76, of Greencastle, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014.

Born Nov. 10, 1937, in Indianapolis, Charlene was the daughter of Charles K. and Dorothy C. (Simms) Lindsay. She married Willard M. Davis; he preceded her in death.

Charlene had retired from the Putnam County Assessor’s office, where she had worked for over 10 years. She had previously worked 10 years as a manager with an appraisal research group; was the first deputy treasurer for Boone County for five years; was co-driver with her husband for Burlington Motor Carrier for four years; was the first lady trucker in the state of Indiana; and was an office manager for Bailey Beautician Supply for 18 years.

She was a member of Central Christian Church, Lebanon; the Eagles Lodge; and the American Legion.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Terry) Jones; sons, Jerry Burdine and Jeff (Susie) Burdine; stepsons, Steven H. Davis and Michael Davis; daughter-in-law, Claudette; brothers, Harry, Thomas and Ronald Lindsay; sisters, Evelyn Rush and Bonita Nelson; companion, Mike Rightmyer; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, 4 Percy L. Julian Drive, Greencastle. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
