---- — Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Fleener, 84, of Lafayette and formerly of Lebanon, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette.

She was born in Lynnville on Jan. 24, 1930, a daughter of the now late Victor J. and Ivy Pearl (Groll) Breckwinkle.

Raised and educated in Lynnville, Ruth graduated from Lynnville High School. She attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville.

She married Bobby Joe Fleener on Oct. 30, 1953, in Lynnville. Mr. Fleener passed away on Aug. 29, 1993.

While Mr. Fleener taught for the Lebanon School Corporation, Mrs. Fleener worked as an executive secretary for the Boone County Cancer Society and the Boone County Mental Health Center for many years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed cooking, knitting, crafts, reading and playing cards.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Whitestown.

Survivors include two children, Kathleen “Kathy” Preuss and husband Mike of Lafayette, and Brent McCoy Fleener and wife Cathy of Holland, Penn.; sister Jean Bailey of Booneville; two grandchildren, Christina Martin of Lebanon, and Joe E. Martin of Thorntown; four step-grandchildren, Teresa Neal, Rita Preuss-McGill, Veronica Preuss, and Robert Preuss; four great-grandchildren, Bart Martin, Luke Martin, Joe Fleener, and Cara Fleener; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Breckwinkle, and three sisters, Sara Marie Breckwinkle, Greta Dimmitte, and Doris Rice.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon.

Interment of Ashes will be held at a later date at Blackfoot Cemetery in Pike County.
