Shirley Vannice

Mrs. Shirley (Hankins) Vannice, 81, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Witham Memorial Hospital.Shirley was born in Thorntown March 4, 1932 to the now late David Carlos “DC” and Ethel (Canine) Hankins. She married James Richard “Dick” Vannice 65 years ago on Sept. 14, 1948. He survives.Other survivors include children; Daughter: Becki (Jay) Flickinger of Lebanon. Sons: Bruce (Susan) Vannice, Kirt (Betty) Vannice, and Kim Vannice, all of Columbus, Ind. Grandchildren; Blake and Brent Flickinger of Illinois, Branden, Justin, Joshua, Kati, Stacy, Nicholas, Ryan, and Brad Vannice. Also, several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Hankins of Thorntown. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters; Russell Hankins, Richard Hankins, Pearl Waddle, Rosemary Norris, Eileen Madison, Guy Hankins , Don Hankins, and Max Hankins. Born and raised in Boone County, Shirley and her family lived in Indiana in several different cities until 1979 when they moved to Macomb, Illinois. Shirley worked at Colchester State Bank in Colchester, Illinois and then Union National Bank, in Macomb, until her retirement. Dick and Shirley continued to live in Macomb until 1999 when they moved to Lebanon. A Celebration of life will be held on the patio at Parky’s Smokehouse, in Lebanon, on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to join.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, or the Lebanon or Center Township Fire Departments. Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.
