Thelma M. Allen

Mrs. Thelma Mae (Sipe) Allen, 96, of Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family at her residence. Thelma was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Boone County, a daughter of the now late Clarence Orville and Ethel (Smith) Sipe. A lifelong resident of Boone County, she attended Lebanon High School. On Oct. 21, 1933, she was married to Alvin Jacob Allen in Boone County. Mr. Allen passed away on March 19, 1991. Thelma was a stay-at-home mom and helpmate on the farm. In addition to helping on the farm, she quilted and sewed for the family. When the girls got older, she worked at the Boone County Bank for 20 years, retiring in 1973. She knitted, crocheted, sewed needlepoint and bead needlepoint, and enjoyed all kinds of crafts, making beautiful things for the family to treasure. She and her husband spent their winters in Florida. After his death, Thelma continued to spend her winters there until her health deteriorated and she no longer wanted to travel. She enjoyed reading and working word-search puzzles, and she was an avid card player. Thelma was a member of Elizaville Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Walker (David) Summers of Lebanon and Phyllis (Jerry) Spelbring of Tipton; brother, L. Wayne (Marjorie) Sipe of Lebanon; brother-in-law, Floyd Cragun of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Betty (Bob) Delong of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Teresa (Rick) Lyles of Henry, Tenn., Jeannine Delph of Tipton, Dianna (Jim) Dale of Lebanon and David (Sandy) Spelbring of Texas; foster grandson, Jeff (Gail) Pavan of West Virginia; three stepgranddaughters, Brenda Summers of Indianapolis, Dianne (Rich) Harcourt of Zionsville and Barbara (Shawn) Lambacher of Galena, Ohio; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her sister, Bonnie Cragun; and a son-in-law, Lloyd C. Walker. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Glen Jewell officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the Elizaville Baptist Church.
