Bonnie L. Albano

Bonnie L. Albano died at her home in Lebanon, Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, six months prior to her 90th birthday. She was born in Frankfort on April 5, 1924, a daughter of George Earl and Sarah Anna Venard Utterback. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1942. She married Victor J. Albano in Tri Lakes Columbia City, Ind., in 1945. He died in 1992. Bonnie had five children: Vickie (Steve) Reynolds of Lebanon; Robert (Debbie) Albano of Las Vegas; Andrew (Bretta) Albano of Prairie Village, Kansas; Rebecca Albano-Miller of Lebanon; and Maria Albano of Lebanon. She had nine grandchildren: Mindy (David) Ford of Lebanon; Matt (Kristi) Reynolds of Lebanon; Michael Reynolds of Frankfort; Marc Reynolds of Lebanon; Chad (Kia) Albano of Fishers; Cory (fiancée, Kacee) Albano of Phoenix, Arizona; Alysabeth Albano of Prairie Village, Kansas; Patrick Miller of Lebanon; and Andrew Miller of Lebanon. She had eight great-grandchildren: Alex Ford, Nick Ford, Samantha Ford, Evan Reynolds, and Elliot (Ellie) Reynolds, all of Lebanon; and Zadie Albano and Aniston Albano of Fishers. Bonnie is survived by a brother, Jack Utterback of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a sister, Patty (Ralph) Hine of Havana, Ill. She had eight brothers and sisters who preceded her in death: George Utterback, Fern McQuade, Don Utterback, Helen Wise, Gene Utterback, Hugh Utterback, Annabelle Utterback and Bette Edwards. She is survived by her beloved “furry” friends Lilly, Stella and Tim. She was preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law, Steve Reynolds; and beloved daughter-in-law, Cathy Albano; and eight brothers and sisters, George Utterback, Fern McQuade, Don Utterback, Helen Wise, Gene Utterback, Hugh Utterback, Annabelle Utterback and Bette Edwards. Bonnie founded Pixie Playhouse Day Care Center in 1958, with locations in Frankfort, Lebanon and Crawfordsville. She was truly a pioneer in day care, helping to establish licensing requirements used by the state of Indiana in regulating childcare facilities. She was recognized by former Governor Evan Bayh for her contribution to the children of Indiana. She advocated for children before Senate and House sub committees. In honor of the “Pixie’s” 25th year in Lebanon, Aug. 10, 1998 was proclaimed as Pixie Playhouse Day Care Center Day. Pixie was selected multiple times as the People’s Choice Award for Best Day Care Provider/Pre School in Boone County. In 2001, she was selected as the Lebanon Business Woman of the Year. She was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Having lived through World War II, it was important to her that the children attending Pixie respected veterans and were aware of patriotism; they recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the Star Spangled Banner daily. She was a member of Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Lebanon, and a former member of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Frankfort and Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Siesta Key, Fla. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 319 E. South St., Lebanon, with the Rev. Timothy Kroeger officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lebanon. Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, is entrusted with the arrangements.
