James “Jim” Alexander

James “Jim” Alexander, 63, passed away Thursday Feb. 7, 2013, at St. Vincent Seton Hospital.

Jim was born Oct. 28, 1949, in Goshen.

On Aug. 10, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart Diana Wasikowski. She survives, along with their children who were his great source of pride and joy, son, Matthew Alexander of Raleigh, N.C., daughter, Amanda Alexander of Lebanon. Also surviving are his loving mother, Evelyn Durski of Goshen; brothers, Donald (Donna) Alexander of South Bend, Robert (Tina) Alexander of Wilsonville, Ore., sisters-in-law, Linda Pianstki of South Bend and Marcia Mikolajewski of Mishawaka. Jim also leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim worked for the trucking industry for many years until he retired in 2000 from Morgan Drive-Away in Elkhart. He also was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon. Since his retirement he spent his days collecting, organizing and cataloging every song ever recorded. He also enjoyed working in his yard, attending sporting events — especially races — Purdue games and Colts football. Jim loved to travel; he took an Alaskan Cruise last August. Jim also loved to dance and had a unique sense of humor. When he was greeted with, “Good to see you,” his favorite response would be, “I’d rather be seen than viewed.”

Jim may be ‘seen’ from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Holy Family Catholic Church, South Bend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, 319 E. South St., Lebanon, IN 46052.

Online condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
