James L. “Jim” Sutphin

James L. “Jim” Sutphin, 72, of Indianapolis, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.

Jim was born May 16, 1941, in Indianapolis, to Harrell and Helen (West) Sutphin.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1959.   He attended Purdue University and served in the National Guard.   He was a member of Zionsville Masonic Lodge.

Jim retired from UTC Carrier as a senior purchaser, after 30 years of employment.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cathy (Callahan) Sutphin; mother, Helen; brother, Nick (Marie) Sutphin; sister, Janet ( George) Koch; son, Keith (Lori) Sutphin; daughter, Kari (Marc) Weist; stepsons, David (Candace) Livingston and Jerry (Laura) Livingston; and seven grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 8, at Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel.   Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the funeral home.   Burial will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown.
