Mr. Lawrence “Larry” aka “Sonny” Myers, 71, of Lebanon, died Aug. 9, 2013, in Rapid City, S.D.
Mr. Myers was born Aug. 1, 1942, in Lebanon, a son of Lawrence and Othella (Small) Myers. Both parents are deceased. He was married to Barbara (Deboulle) Myers. She died Dec. 30, 2011.
Larry attended Lebanon High School and served in the U.S. Army. He later attended drafting school, worked for Commercial Filters as a draftsman and then took to his true calling of working for various contractors as a heavy equipment mechanical engineer until he retired in the early 1990s.
Larry was a Past Master Mason and 25 plus year member of the Thorntown Lodge 113, Past President of the Boone County Shrine Club, member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Past Patron and 25 plus year member of Lebanon Chapter No. 23 Order of the Eastern Star, 25 year member of the Amaranth, Grand Lecturer of District 2, International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Indiana, Past Executive Board member and Co-Bar Manager of Post 113. He was the driving force for the implementation of the American Legion Riders Post 113 and was the driving force behind the construction of the War Memorial Monument in Lebanon Memorial Park. He was a member of the Indiana Patriot Guard and performed many Indiana Patriot Guard missions. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the V.F.W. honor guard; 42 year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a 12 year member of the Fraternal Order of Elks in Florida where he enjoyed cooking. He also served as President of the Western Boone Sports Boosters.
Larry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and watching them play sports and become leaders of their organizations. He enjoyed riding his specially painted motorcycle with friends, family and rides dedicated to our service men and women. He was dedicated to the Rainbow for Girls in Indiana where he performed many duties and was known as “Papaw.” He also enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and playing golf.
