Delores Frolene “Dee” Koun

Mrs. Delores Frolene “Dee” Kouns, 82, Whitestown, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

A native of Roxana, Ill., Delores Frolene “Dee” Kouns was born on Aug. 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank Lee and Eva Christine (Murphy) Miller.

Dee lived in Illinois through the fourth grade when her family moved to Indiana. She attended schools in Lebanon through the eighth grade and then moved to Zionsville where she graduated in 1949, from Zionsville High School.

On Nov. 23, 1950, in Zionsville, she was married to Robert Leon Kouns. Mr. Kouns passed away on Dec. 12, 1973.

Dee loved to cook. In 1974, she began working as a substitute in the school cafeterias. For nearly 30 years, she worked full-time in Sheridan at Marion Elementary and at Adams Elementary. During the summertime, she continued her love of cooking as head of concessions for her son-in-law, Larry, in the Pro Shop at Riverside Golf Course in Indianapolis.

Well-known and highly regarded in the community, Dee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed her family, cooking, watching sports. She was also a member of Christian Liberty Church.

Survivors include three children, Mrs. Kathy S. Siddens and husband, Larry, Zionsville; Mr. Kevin R. Kouns and wife, Debbie, Whitestown and Mrs. Karen L. Karaszewski and husband, Dan, Lonsdale, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Judy Smith-Dias, Whitestown; six grandchildren  Marshall Siddens and wife, Carrie, Lebanon; Josh Kouns and wife, Kourtney, Whitestown; Molly Barrick and husband, Matthew, Sheridan; Kasey Conklin and husband, David, Wylie, Texas, and Kerri Kiracofe and husband, Sean, Dallas, Texas, and five great grandchildren, Trey, Kenzie,  Walker, Reese and Clark.

Her parents, Frank L. Miller and Christine Miller Red, her husband, Robert L. Kouns, two brothers, John Red and Frank Miller, Jr., and two sisters, Cynthia Cornish and Maretta Shelby, are deceased.

Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. at Myers Chapel of Memories, Pastor Dan Ferren and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. A family interment service will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Kouns’ memory to the Sheridan Community School Scholarship Foundation (SCSSF), 24795 Hinesley Road, Sheridan, IN 46069.
