Stephen Sample

Stephen Sample passed away on June 1, 2013, in Indianapolis.

He was born Dec. 15, 1951 in Lebanon, to Max and Mariam Sample.

Steve lived in Champaign, Ill., then in Aurora, Ill., and later lived in Atlanta, Ga., until his return to Indiana in 2006.

He graduated from West Aurora High School and Western Illinois University, with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education.

In Steve’s early years after high school, he farmed independently as well as for several farms in the Oswego, Ill. He later worked in maintenance for hospitals and finally in the commercial laundry as an installation supervisor and specialist in troubleshooting Milnor commercial laundry equipment.

Steve is survived by his Aunt Norma (Otterman) McCoy of Lafayette; cousins Melanie (Donald) Sigman of Lafayette, Chris Otterman of Zionsville, Gary Sample of Lebanon, and Beth Ann Sample of Austin, Texas; a brother, Richard R. Sample I (Sharon) of Macomb, Ill.; and nephews Richard Sample II of Carthage, Ill., and Ryan Sample of Macomb, Ill.

Steve was a dedicated “Uncle Buck” to his nephews and a devoted brother to Rick and Sharon.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam (Otterman) Sample and Max Wayne Sample, and uncles Norman McCoy, Robert (Bob) Otterman and William Sample.

Interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Hopewell Cemetery.

Russell & Hitch Funeral Homes are handling arrangements.
